Dental plaster dental technique

DIN EN ISO 6873 provides these classifications for the types of gypsum used in dental technology:

  • Type I: Impression stone
  • Type II: Model plaster/articulation plaster
  • Type III: Model hard plaster
  • Type IV: super-hard gypsum for molds, (up to 0.15% expansion)
  • Type V: super hard gypsum for molds, (up to 0.30 % expansion)

Super hard plaster type 4

Some variants work completely without expansion (e.g. ZERO stone) and can therefore be used for work after overmolding. Other hard plasters (e.g. rapid-stone) are suitable for repairs and rail work. The hydro-stone 200 also deserves special mention as the world's first special gypsum made of algiate for counterbite molding deserves special mention.

Super hard plaster type 5

The associated models are suitable for acrylic prosthetics. The resistone 160, for example, supports all standard press, casting and injection processes.

Dental stone type 4

Each of these offers is an articulation plaster. The individual variants are particularly fast-setting and some are equipped with increased adhesive strength (for example, arti-base 60). Precision is the focus, which is why dental stone is excellently suited for model making. This applies, for example, to most plaster models of the dentition that need to be created commonly. Moreover, they can also be used for quick repairs (for example, arti-plaster 60).

Plinth plaster

The associated variants are required, for example, for the creation of precise pindex models (e.g. socker-plaster GT exact). They support the base casting technique, have only a low expansion and feature an elegant color scheme.

Stump plaster

These variants can usually be demolded early and are suitable for almost all common saw, diagnostic and counterbite models. In some cases (e.g. hydro-base 300), the plasters can handle water-retaining and hydrophilic impression materials. The Vantago range shows the quality you can expect from a die model: It has high edge stability and very good flowability as well as working time. Vantago can therefore be used for model fabrication in series. Variants such as esthetic-base gold or gold quick are also suitable for CAD/CAM models.
